Atrial Fibrillation and Heart Rhythm Disorders

Atrial Fibrillation and Heart Rhythm Disorders

Symptoms of rapid or irregular heart beat or symptoms of dizziness or passing out with no underlying cause may be related to a slow or fast heartbeat related disorder. A heart monitor placed on a patient can detect these heart beat/rhythm disorders so that they can be managed and treated appropriately.

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is a heart rhythm disorder characterized by irregular and often rapid heartbeats. The symptoms of atrial fibrillation can be as follows:

1. Heart palpitations: Feeling a rapid, fluttering, or pounding sensation in the chest.

2. Irregular pulse: A person with AFib may have an irregular pulse that feels rapid or too slow.

3. Fatigue and weakness: Atrial fibrillation can cause reduced blood flow and oxygen supply to different organs

4. Shortness of breath: Difficulty breathing or a sense of breathlessness, especially during physical activity or even at rest.

5. Dizziness or lightheadedness: AFib can cause inadequate blood circulation, leading to lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting spells.

6. Chest discomfort: Some people with atrial fibrillation may experience chest pain.

If you experience any of these symptoms or suspect you may have AFib, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and diagnosis.
